A logical characterization of a phonological process includes:
- Models (representations) that specify the set of elements in a structure, the properties of those elements, and relations between elements;
- A logical language for making statements about elements in the structure; and
- an interpretation which defines a function by specifying the elements, properties, and relations in the output structure in terms of logical statements about the input structure.
